Prerequisite: Background checks are required before the first day of class. Students must be at least 16 years of age. Physicals, immunization records and a T.B. test are all required before the first day of clinical.

Certified Nursing Assistant is a one-semester course which provides students with the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to prepare for careers in health care. The class will cover two consecutive periods for one semester. Students will complete three concurrent DMACC courses.

  • HSC233 – Introduction to Health Occupations (4 DMACC credits): Introduces the variety of career options and requirements in the health care field.
  • HSC172 – Nurse Aide (3 DMACC credits): Develops entry-level skills necessary for employment in Iowa skilled care facilities.
  • HSC101 – Emergency Care (1 DMACC credit): Teaches essential emergency response skills, including treatment of fractures, burns, resuscitation, and CPR aligned with American Heart Level II Standards.

Students have the opportunity to earn Industry-Recognized Credentials:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – Optional
