Culinary Arts I is a one-semester introductory course that gives students a foundation in cooking, baking, and kitchen practices. Students learn essential skills such as knife safety, food preparation techniques, accurate measuring, recipe reading, and kitchen sanitation. Students take the Iowa Food Handler course, and upon passing, earn a recognized certification required to progress to Culinary Arts II. Through hands-on labs and classroom activities, students gain confidence in the kitchen and begin building the professional skills needed for advanced culinary courses and future foodservice careers.
