The World Language and Culture Studies course is an engaging, year-long exploration of global languages and cultures, designed to reflect and celebrate the diverse backgrounds of our school community.  The course would align with the American Council for Teaching Foreign Languages (AFTCL) standards. Students will develop a deeper understanding of languages such as Arabic, Dari, Dinka, Pashto, Russian, Swahili, Tigrinya, and languages from Burma, gaining insight into the cultures, histories, and traditions that shape these linguistic communities.

Throughout the course, students will engage in interactive units focusing on the geography, customs, and societal norms of various countries while learning basic conversational phrases and foundational language structures. Partnering with community members and native speakers, students will have hands-on opportunities to practice language skills and explore culturally responsive practices.

Additionally, students will critically analyze the role of language in shaping identity, communication, and global perspectives. Through discussions, projects, and immersive experiences, they will develop cultural awareness, empathy, and a greater appreciation for the rich linguistic diversity in our interconnected world. This course fosters global citizenship and prepares students for meaningful cross-cultural interactions in their academic, professional, and personal lives.
